Joy Bullen

I developed my formal skills in project management and development from many years in the financial industry working on small and large projects that sometimes spanned 4 continents.  In the years since, I have embraced roles as fundraiser and philanthropic consultant in the charitable and not-for-profit sector.

I have a deep and fundamental belief in the necessity to do meaningful work and to contribute to the growth and development of young people. I have been privileged to work with organizations that support, educate and entertain Canadians from coast to coast and I have a heartfelt appreciation for the people who devote their time and talents to building a better neighbourhood, community, country and world.

I am especially dedicated to showcasing the achievements of Black youth who are engaged in pursuit of a career in music.  I do this by promoting, advising and securing long-term strategic partnerships for our annual Black History Month Tours. It is my hope that this exposure enables the musicians involved to grow through more performing opportunities, community support, and the resources necessary for success.

Since 2015, supported by TD and non-profit partners across Canada, I have participated in the national celebration of Black excellence in the Arts during Black History Month in Canada.

The artists I showcase celebrate the roots from which we build, our achievements, who we are as Canadians, and who we want to become. 

The projects that I promote celebrate diversity, creativity and achievement. They challenge Canadians at large to rethink perceptions of the  immigrant, Black people and the dynamics of Black families. They encourage and empower youth to take charge of their destiny, and to recognize that talent must be nurtured and developed through hard work and strategic planning.

 

My best advice for the next Generation.

Make it your mission to develop economic independence.
Dream!
Pursue your dream with confidence, because that will enable success;
with humility, because that will help you learn from every person and circumstance, and
with empathy, because no challenge is insurmountable when you take time to ‘put yourself in the shoes’ of others
